In the film Scarlett Johansson (Anna) and Drew Barrymore (Mary) indulge in spa pedicures while discussing the many ups and downs of their love lives, and guess what was on hand (and foot) to paint their nails? - yes, OPI, with a rainbow of nail lacquers scattered throught the 'salon' scene.

Tutor at Wakefield College, Danielle Goodwin, together with some of her coolest students, held an open salon 'Geek Day', with profits from nail treatments going to Breast Cancer Care.

The students use the popular SALON GEEK nail community website as part of their course and decided to donate money to charity for having a 'geek name' that reflected their personalities; Alison Barr was named TRUE Geek because she is always gaining knowledge from the site.    

The girls raised more than £100 for the charity.

Talented young beauty therapists (and hairdressers) are invited to put themselves forward for a chance to represent the UK as part of Team UK, who will take part in the largest global skills competition, WorldSkills, which in 2011 is being hosted in London. 

WorldSkills UK is a set of dynamic skills competitions (of which there are 70) for both young people and adults, designed by industry experts.  Relevant competitions for the sector include beauty therapy, nail enhancements, nail technology, aromatherapy, reflexology and media make-up. 

Free to enter, registration closes on Thursday 9 April 2009 - with heats and national finals taking place over the spring and summer.  Gold medal winners will be celebrated at an awards ceremony in the autumn.

When Charlie, a one-year-old miniature long-haired dachshund, had problems with in-growing eyelashes, Sterex trainer, Myschell Lyndle, came to the rescue, carrying out a series of electrolysis procedures to reduce the density and strength of the troublesome hairs - with great success - leaving Charlie a very happy chappy.
